  • Durability: Engineered to resist wear and maintain thread integrity under road loads.
  • Ease of use: Straightforward install with common hand tools; used during steering or suspension service.
  • Application: Ideal for restoration projects and replacement of worn or damaged adjusting sleeves to eliminate play and improve steering feel.

Installation / Application:

  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes

Suggested Tools:

  • jack and jack stands
  • wheel chocks
  • adjustable wrench or tie-rod end wrench
  • socket set and ratchet
  • pen or scribe (for alignment reference)
  • thread lubricant or anti-seize
  • vice or clamp (optional)
  • torque wrench
  • needle-nose pliers (if cotter pin present)

Instructions:

  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack, and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheel for access.
  3. Before disconnecting, mark the position of the outer tie rod end relative to the old adjusting sleeve or count the number of turns to preserve approximate alignment as a baseline.
  4. Loosen the locknut on the outer tie rod end and unthread the outer tie rod from the adjusting sleeve. If present, remove any cotter pins or retainers first.
  5. Unscrew and remove the old adjusting sleeve from the inner tie rod. Clean the mating threads on the inner and outer tie rods of dirt and old lubricant.
  6. Apply a light coat of thread lubricant or anti-seize to the mating threads of the new adjusting sleeve and the tie rod ends.
  7. Thread the new adjusting sleeve onto the inner tie rod to the approximate original position (use your marks or turn counts), making sure right/left hand orientation is correct for equal adjustment capability.
  8. Reinstall the outer tie rod into the adjusting sleeve to the previously recorded position. Tighten the outer tie rod locknut to the manufacturer’s specified torque and secure any cotter pins or retainers if required.
  9. Lower the vehicle enough to allow the suspension to settle, then tighten any remaining fasteners to spec. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle fully; torque lug nuts to specification.
  10. Because tie-rod length changes affect steering alignment, have a professional alignment performed to restore proper toe settings and ensure safe handling.
